The James E. Cary Cancer Center has been licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to provide high dose rate brachytherapy. This will allow local treatment of breast cancer utilizing the Mammosite technology. Dependent upon stage and location of the breast cancer, women may be able to receive all radiation treatments in 5 days opposed to the traditional radiation period of six weeks. The James E. Cary Cancer Center is offering MammoSite in cooperation with Dr. Joseph Bean, Dr. Michael Bukstein, Dr. Aphrodite Henderson and Dr. Patricia Hirner.
